Pediatricot: managing circle time
teach me to talk: making circle time successful
Have a hula hoop in the middle of the circle. Identify one child at a time to be the child who jumps into the hula hoop at the end of the rhyme. The children move around the hoola hop reciting the chant:
Sally goes round the sun, Sally goes round the moon,
Sally goes round the chimney tops, every afternoon, BOOM
Change directions after each child.
Use any chant with a set rhythm to pass a bean bag around the circle to the beat. Have the children pass to the right for awhile, then have them pass to the left. You can vary having them pass the bean bag with the right or left hand. For example: having them pass the bean bag with the right hand but to the left would give them across body/midline practice.
Example of a chant to use:
Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold,
peas porridge in the pot, nine days old.
some like it hot, some like it cold,
some like it in the pot, nine days old.
